When Sharon shared this week’s blog topic with me – “Most Romantic Commercials” – I was excited on two levels. First, I work in advertising for my day job, so I watch a lot of commercials…a LOT. Which means I definitely feel I have something to say on this subject! And second, the moment I heard the topic, I know exactly which commercial I’d pick. Without any further ado….I’ll let you take a look for yourself:
Yep, the Diet Coke commercial, that aired in the mid-90s and starred male model, Lucky Vanous, is probably my hands-down favorite commercial. But most romantic, you say?
Absolutely!
While the commercial may not be deliberately romantic, there is just something magical about these 45 seconds that certainly put me in the mind to write very romantic stories starring hunky heroes that have a surprising….ahem….pectoral resemblance to Mr. Vanous.
I recently had a conversation with my mom that echoed a similar thought. She asked me where my ideas come from and the best I could describe it was the oh-so-eloquent…”but they’re everywhere!” When you’re a writer, inspiration is – literally – everywhere. Authors think in stories and you never know where a story idea will come from.
My new series, The Sons of the Zodiac, was a lot like that. I wish I could define exactly where the idea came from, but all I know is one night, I was sitting there relaxing in front of the TV, not evening thinking about plotting, and then the universe handed me a gift. I had two thoughts that hit at the exact same moment. Warriors. Zodiac. And that was all I needed. Two years later, I’m happy to say the series has taken shape under the expert help of the wonderful editorial folks at NAL and Brody Talbot, my Leo Warrior, has hit the shelves in WARRIOR ASCENDED.
I certainly know the ladies of Silk and Shadows are no strangers to the gifts of the muse. Sharon, Jessa, Annette and Kim all write some very fun stories that take their readers on breathless adventures with incredibly exciting heroes and heroines. I was so excited when Sharon invited me to join them for the day and I look forward to meeting everyone!
So come on in for a quick Diet Coke break and tell me who all your drool-worthy, romantic heroes are!
Addison

by Kim Lenox March 12th, 2010 at 10:33 amHa! I’d completely forgotten that commercial! And I quite, ahem, appreciated the business acumen at the time.
A Leo hero, you say? Why, I just happen to be a Leo, and we Leos know we’re good story material
Although all my New Years resolution sit-ups still haven’t given me rippling abs…
by Jessa Slade March 12th, 2010 at 12:36 pmOMG - How did I miss this commercial?
Maybe it played in the US but not Canada?
Your book looks awesome, Addison. I love the idea behind it–I’m in hugely favor of hot immortal warriors.
Congrats on your debut release!
